The Town of LaGrange is in Central Dutchess County. Established in 1821, the Town includes the hamlets of Arthursburg, Billings, Freedom Plains, LaGrangeville, Manchester Bridge, Moores Mill, Noxon, Rombout Ridge and Titus.
LaGrange is primarily a residential community. Closeness to the Taconic State Parkway has enabled LaGrange to become a bedroom community to Yonkers, White Plains, and New York City.
In the past thirty years, the growth in residential housing has been significant. This has placed an exceptional burden on the Arlington School District, which serves the educational needs of the community. As a result, a number of new schools have been built to meet the needs of the community; causing school taxes to become a burden for many residents.
The Town of LaGrange has been trying to find ways to slow the expansion by increasing the amount of land needed to build a home. The Town has also been trying to limiting the number of new housing subdivisions.
LaGrange residents enjoy convenient shopping, since a number of food chains have built major shopping centers throughout the area. The quality of life in LaGrange is also enhanced by the 590 acre James Baird State Park, which includes an 18 hole golf course, regulation tennis courts, extensive walking trails, shelters, picnic areas, and a children’s play area.
Freedom Park, on Skidmore Road, offers summer concerts at 7 PM, every Sunday with free admission; including concerts by the Arlington School Music Groups.
Sprout Creek Farm, on Lauer Road, hosts a hot air balloon festival every year. They are also and educational center for young boys and girls; where they can visit, or spend time in their summer camp and find out what it’s like to live and work on an active farm.
Lagrange has something for everyone. There’s also a youth baseball and softball league, a soccer club, basketball league, Lacrosse club, Pop Warner football, a Freedom Lake swim team, a Lions Club, a rotary; and a volunteer fire department.
Call me if you are in the market to buy or sell a home in LaGrange, or any other area of Dutchess County. I’d like to make this one of the best years of your life.
