The Town of Milan is one of the best kept secrets in Dutchess County. Milan is strategically located along the Taconic State Parkway, just south of Columbia County. While a major portion of the Town is occupied by farms; there are also a considerable number of single family homes for anyone who would enjoy an unhurried, down-home life style.
Milan will captivate you with its rustic atmosphere, abundance of wildlife, and few commercial businesses. If you would like to snow mobile; or four wheel on your own property; or possible own a few horses, there are many homes in Milan with enough property to make it all possible.
You can try a little self indulgence, knowing the Taconic State Parkway provides convenient mode of travel to Albany and New York City. Living in Milan, you will be about an hours drive from Albany, and two hours from lower Manhattan.
If you need to commute to work in New York City, Amtrak provides round trip train service from Rhinecliff, starting in early morning, and leaving every two hours. Rhinecliff is situated on the Hudson River, just east of Rhinebeck.
Commuting to Penn Station in New York City takes an hour and forty five minute and will cost anywhere from $24 to $46 (one way), depending upon the time of travel. Round trip tickets are available for slightly less.
Amtrak also provides train service to Albany. The trip takes slightly under an hour. However, you will probably choose to travel by automobile. The train schedule is limited and not adequate for someone needing an early arrival or late departure.
