Pleasant Valley is a somewhat laid back hamlet in Central Dutchess County. It is located approximately midway between Albany and New York City.
There were few settlers in Pleasant Valley when Dutchess County was first formed in 1683. Consequently, its early history is somewhat sketchy. What is known is that it was part of the Great or Lower Nine Partners Land Grant of 1697; and was first settled in the mid 1700’s. In 1821 it was separated and formed from the Town of Clinton.
Pleasant Valley is a great place to live, if you are attracted to a simpler life style. It’s far less developed than the towns in lower Dutchess County; and if you are a commuter, you will appreciate it’s nearness to the Taconic State Parkway.
The Taconic traverses the eastern portion of the town; and provides a convenient path of travel to Albany, White Plains, and New York City. Route 44 traverses the town of Pleasant Valley and the Taconic.
It takes between fifteen and twenty minutes to reach route 84 on the Taconic State Parkway. It takes approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to commute to White Plains. Is this an acceptable commute time to enjoy an enchanting life style? You have to be the judge.
