Cold Spring is an absolutely beautiful Hudson Valley community, located along the Hudson River, approximately 50 miles north of New York City. Situated on the western side of Putnam County, it is easily reachable by automobile or train. Metro North maintains a train station in the village.
Incorporated in 1846, Cold Spring played a major role in the development of our nation. When Albany Post Road and the Hudson River were the main travel routes between New York City and Albany, the Village of Cold Spring served as a place where boats sailing the Hudson would stop for fresh water and supplies.
Following the war of 1812, a munitions factory known as the West Point Foundry, was built in the Village, along the Hudson River. This foundry manufactured heavy cannons and artillery shells for the Union Army and played a major role in the Union victory.
Today Cold Spring is the home of many historic sites and popular attractions; including the Boscobel Restoration; the Foundry School Museum; Little Stony Point State Park, Foundry Cove; the Bandstand and Dock; antique shops; many fine restaurants; the water front park, and much more.
